Crime takes a break on beaches
WASHINGTON--Crime has dropped on
Pinellas County's Gulf beach barrier islands, according to figures
compiled by the federal government.
The latest figures show that 134
fewer crimes were reported to police in the towns running from
Belleair Beach in the north to St. Pete Beach in the south. The report
covers th years 2006 and 2005.
Crime was down in all but one
combined area -- Indian Shores and Redington Shores. Crimes reported
there were slightly up from the year before. The Indian Shores Police
Department services both towns.
The most dramatic declines were
in burglaries and larcenies. The largest increases were in aggravated
assault and rape. Following is a detailed chart covering the various
crime categories in the barrier island towns over two years:
